Bye Bye Blackbird

I had the good fortune of a visit from this magnificent beast in my garden recently.I guess it wasn't so fortunate for the Blackbird that was immobilised by it's mighty talons.I was transfixed by this Sparrowhawk for about five minutes, as it slowly crushed the life out of the unfortunate 'Blackie'.It was completely unperturbed by anything around it and the cacophany of squawking from all the other birds nearby. If it had had been a cat,I would have chased it.But,I somehow felt priviliged to have it pay me a visit. After a few tasty morsels, for good measure, it gathered up its prey are carted it off to it's stash.I know; I should know better and only put food on the bird table. But,then if I had,I would never have had the pleasure of a close encounter with it.

We had a Sparrow Hawk slaughter a lovely little wood pigeon in our garden. The murderer feasted then flew off leaving the remains for later.
Husband, dutifully, at my request, shovelled up the remains and burried them.
I then realised that, if the Hawk, returned for the remains, and was still hungry, it would murder another unsuspecting pigeon.
I related my thoughts to himself, and the reply was,
'Well if you think I'm digging the bloody thing up, think again'!
'Charming, thought I'.
I spent the next couple of hours stalking the garden with a broom in hand to chase the buggery hawk should it return.
'Ha ha', chortled Husband, 'that broom really suits you, all you need is a black pointy hat and you'd be away...
Whatever could he have meant!

Trubes...I think the same Sparrowhawk has picked off a few Wood Pigeons also.As I'm rather fond of 'Blackies' it was a rather bitter sweet event.Do we interfere with nature or not? If it's cats, most definitely!!
